Hi, I’m Tammi

a Korean-American mezzo-soprano from Bellevue, WA.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where I studied with internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and highly respected singing voice specialist Margaret Baroody.

At Peabody, I received the Rosa Ponselle Scholarship and George Woodhead Prize in Voice.

I’ve performed in various operas such as Le Nozze di Figaro, Chérubin, Hänsel und Gretel, and The Magic Flute. I’ve also performed solos of Handel’s Messiah and Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning

Despite my formal training in opera and classical music, I love a wide variety of genres and find it necessary for musicians to explore other genres than what they’re familiar with. I think it’s more fun that way, anyways 🥳

I’ve been teaching for nearly a decade and have worked with people of all ages, ranging from 6 - 70, and abilities. It’s never too late to start!

I’m currently available for teaching, coaching, and performances.

My philosophy

My philosophy ☁️

As cheesy as it might sound, music is my one true love in this life.

It came naturally to me from an early age; at age 6, I was composing my own harmonies at the upright piano we had at home. Throughout childhood, I sang so much around the house that one of my cousins nicknamed me “bird.”

I know that this is not a universal experience, but I still believe that music is for everyone. When I tell people about my formal training in music, they tend to respond with, “oh, I could never,” or “please don’t judge my singing!” but I know that when people shy away from singing, or music in general, the biggest hindrance is typically a lack of technique and knowledge more than a lack of natural ability. Even musical ability can be taught!

The world of music always has its arms open to all. Even just a little bit of education and practice can go a long way! I find so much joy and fulfillment in helping people improve their skills as well as seeing their confidence rise! If you’d like to try out a lesson, sign up for a trial session below.
